The Chimera Ensemble is a highly flexible student-run ensemble. The group provides a public forum for new undergraduate and postgraduate compositions and also gives students the opportunity to perform challenging contemporary repertoire. Recent performances have included Ligeti's Chamber Concerto, Donatoni's Spiri, Grisey's Partiels and Roger Marsh's Kagura. At the end of each term the Chimera Ensemble presents a day of events, usually consisting of two concerts, an open rehearsal, and a pre-concert talk. In addition to performances within York, the Chimera Ensemble has toured Portugal, Japan and Germany.

Audition information:

Chimera is unauditioned, but proficient music reading is important as a lot of what we do is very tricky! If you sign up at the start of the year, we will try to find pieces for you to play in our concerts.

Rehearsal information:

Thursdays (4pm-9pm)
