Current Committee (2018/19)

The Music Society Committee, elected in 2018

Vacancies

The Music Society takes a lot of time and commitment to function properly, and it takes people with a variety of different skills to function well. Do you have what it takes to be involved? It’ll look great on your CV in the future!

All positions (except extra-ordinary members) are filled by election. We are hoping the next election will be in the first half of the first term of 2018/19.

Here are the positions we have available at the moment:

Are you interested in getting involved with the running of a society, but don’t have previous committee experience? It can be really hard getting elected to a big position without being involved before.

As First Year Rep, you would be the main point-of-contact for all freshers (both music students, and others).

It would be your job to promote the Society to first years and encourage them to get involved. You would also be their voice on the committee: if they have ideas or comments, you would be the person to bring them to the committee meetings.

You would also play an active role in running events and socials, as the committee sees fit.

The committee meets once a week, and attendance is compulsory.

Do you have a passion for audio and sound work? The role of Technician for The Music Society could be for you.

We run twice-weekly concerts, most of which need some form of stage lighting and sound management. These concerts are also broadcast live on YouTube to audiences all over the world.

As Technician, you would be lighting and sound trained for The Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall, allowing you to be a great contact not just for the Society, but also for everyone across the Music Department.

You must be a University of York Music or Music and Sound Recording Student to hold this position.

You would also play an active role in running events and socials, as the committee sees fit.

The committee meets once a week, and attendance is compulsory.

The Technician would be required to attend and work for all concerts in the term and is answerable to the Concerts Manager. The Technician is in charge of lighting, sound, broadcasting and recording and must liaise with the Concerts Manager to correctly fulfil this position.

If you would like to apply for this position, please contact Clark, the President, by email: cdjb500@york.ac.uk

Extra-ordinary members are appointed by the President for specific reasons for a specific time.

At the moment, there are no extra-ordinary member posts required.
